Maicon, who was driving the Cruze, and an unidentified passenger were taken to the Marataízes Emergency Care Unit. Unfortunately, Maicon suffered multiple fractures and did not survive his injuries. Ingrid, meanwhile, was taken to Menino Jesus Hospital but also succumbed. The tragedy was a severe blow to friends and family, generating a profound sense of loss and grief in the community.
Maicon’s uncle, Erivelto Ataliba, was one of the first to hear the news. He reported that a friend called him with the sad news: “A friend called me and said he had some sad news: his nephew had been in an accident and passed away. I said, ‘You’re joking.’ He replied, ‘I’m serious, friend. I’ve lost my way in life.’” This moving statement captures the pain and despair that such a tragedy can cause.
