Eric Dane Earns a 10-Minute Standing Ovation in His First TV Appearance Since His Heartbreaking ALS Diagnosis

Actor Eric Dane, beloved by millions for his role as Dr. Mark Sloan on Grey’s Anatomy, has shown extraordinary courage in the face of devastating news.

Despite being diagnosed with ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis) earlier this year, the 52-year-old star has chosen to continue working — and his return to set moved an entire cast and crew to tears.

Dane made his first on-screen appearance since his diagnosis in a Thanksgiving episode of the NBC drama Brilliant Minds.

What happened behind the scenes, however, became the moment no one expected: a 10-minute standing ovation so emotional and heartfelt that even the show’s creator said he had never seen anything like it in his career.

A Diagnosis That Changed Everything

Eric Dane announced his ALS diagnosis in April. In his public statement to People Magazine, he expressed gratitude for the support surrounding him: “I am grateful to have my loving family by my side as we navigate this next chapter.”
