Evacuations and Rescue Efforts
Police officers and volunteers helped evacuate more than 300 people from nearby residential buildings. Many left with only what they were wearing.
Elderly residents were carried out on stretchers, while children clutched their parents’ hands as they moved through the smoke-filled streets.
Temporary shelters were set up at a nearby school gymnasium, where evacuees were given blankets, food, and medical checkups. Red Cross volunteers and city officials worked to register everyone and ensure no one was left behind. Continue reading…
