A Normal Evening Shattered
Witnesses said the fire started in what appeared to be a warehouse located on the corner of Main and Jefferson Streets. At first, it was a small flicker — barely visible from the outside. But within minutes, a powerful gust of wind fanned the flames.
“I was closing my shop when I saw smoke coming out of the upper windows,” said Maria Lopez, a local store owner
Residents who lived in nearby apartment complexes described the sound of shattering glass and collapsing beams as the fire tore through the building.
Firefighters Battle Relentless Flames
Dozens of firefighters from multiple stations arrived within minutes, forming a perimeter around the burning block. By 8:20 p.m., the flames had reached the roofs of two neighboring buildings.
“It’s one of the most intense fires we’ve seen in recent years,” said Fire Chief Daniel Morris in a brief statement at the scene. “Our priority is to contain the fire, protect nearby structures, and make sure every person in the area is safe.”
Thick columns of smoke could be seen miles away. Local residents were advised to stay indoors and close their windows to avoid inhaling toxic fumes. Authorities also cut power to several surrounding blocks to reduce the risk of further damage.
More than 20 fire trucks, aerial ladder units, and water tankers were deployed. Crews used foam and high-pressure water hoses to suppress the flames, but officials admitted the combination of old wooden beams and strong winds made the fire “particularly aggressive.” Continue reading…
