He continued with a list of requests: “Can you please pack enough clothes for the week, get my rod and tackle box ready, and don’t forget to pack my new blue silk pajamas?”
The wife was quiet for a moment. Something about his tone made her suspicious. Still, she didn’t argue. She wanted to be supportive, so she carefully packed his bags. Shirts and pants for each day, a warm jacket in case the weather turned cold, his fishing gear, and yes — those shiny new pajamas he seemed oddly concerned about.
A Week Away
The week crawled by slowly. The wife thought about him often, picturing him out on the lake casting lines and telling stories with his boss. But every so often, that little nagging voice in her mind wondered: Why was he so insistent about those silk pajamas?
Still, she brushed it aside. She trusted him, and she wanted to believe he really was out fishing.
Finally, after seven long days, the husband returned home. He looked tired, with a sunburn across his nose, but he also looked pleased with himself.
