Actor Eric Dane, beloved by millions for his role as Dr. Mark Sloan on Grey’s Anatomy, has shown extraordinary courage in the face of devastating news.

Despite being diagnosed with ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis) earlier this year, the 52-year-old star has chosen to continue working — and his return to set moved an entire cast and crew to tears.

Dane made his first on-screen appearance since his diagnosis in a Thanksgiving episode of the NBC drama Brilliant Minds.
