The words stung. Linda had sacrificed so much to be there for her mother, and now, the woman she loved was reducing those months of care to unpaid lodging.
But the shock didn’t stop there.
Linda’s sister, to her credit, felt guilty. “She said it didn’t feel right, that I deserved to know. Mom had asked her to keep it secret.”
It was a double betrayal—one from her mother, and another from a sibling she thought would have her back.
“I couldn’t believe it. I gave up everything to help Mom when she was at her worst, and now she was rewarding my sister—for money.”
Linda didn’t just feel hurt. She felt erased.
“I contacted a lawyer quietly. I didn’t want to start a war—I just wanted fairness.”
