With the eyes of the country on him, Mamdani made a bold statement that sent ripples through the political establishment.
“New York will remain a city of immigrants, a city built by immigrants, powered by immigrants and, as of tonight, led by an immigrant,” he declared, referencing his own background as the son of immigrants.
His words were not just a celebration of his heritage, but also a pointed rebuke of former President Donald Trump, whose immigration policies had been a source of much controversy during his time in office.
But Mamdani’s remarks didn’t stop there. He went on to explicitly call out Trump, signaling that he would not back down from challenging the former president’s influence.
With a large crowd cheering him on, Mamdani delivered a direct challenge to Trump, telling him, “If anyone can show a nation betrayed by Donald Trump how to defeat him, it is the city that gave rise to him.”
