Tragic Collision in Indiana: Jeep Crashes Into Amish Buggy — Father Airlifted, Multiple Children Injured

Authorities confirmed that nine people were inside the buggy at the time of the crash.
“This was one of the most severe buggy collisions we’ve seen in years,” a first responder said.
- Ruben L.M. Schwartz, 32, the buggy’s driver, was airlifted to Lutheran Hospital with critical injuries.
- Joseph L.M. Schwartz, 20, and five juvenile passengers were transported by ambulance toParkview Hospital.
- Saraetta L. Schwartz, 32, and a 2-year-old child declined treatment at the scene.
Police Identify Jeep Driver
Adams County Sheriff Dan Mawhorr confirmed that theJeep’s driver, Bradley J. Ocilka, 33, of Burlington, Kentucky, was traveling eastbound on State Road 218 when he struck the slower-moving buggy from behind.
Ocilka was taken to the hospital for amandatory blood draw but declined additional medical care. As of the latest reports, no formal charges have been filed, and the investigation remains ongoing.
Authorities are working to determine whetherspeed, distraction, or low visibility contributed to the crash.
