The Strength They Never Saw — Until It Was Too Late

I visited every day.

Not for praise. Not to be forgiven.

But because somewhere in me, I still loved her.

One afternoon, as I adjusted her brace, she whispered:

“Were we really that unfair to you?”

I looked her in the eyes.

“Yes,” I said. “But I survived anyway.”

She wept. Sobbed like a child.
