Around this time, Lorena approached me with an offer. She wanted me to mentor the new team members. She told me she had watched how I handled myself through the ordeal, and she believed I had something valuable to teach.
I accepted. And in guiding others, I discovered a new sense of purpose. What once nearly broke me had become the very thing that allowed me to lift others higher.
A Moment of Forgiveness
“You still wear that?” he asked.
“I do,” I replied. “It means something different now.”
There was a pause. Then he sighed. “I was a jerk back then. Thought being funny meant… that. I’m sorry.”
I let the silence linger before answering. “I know.”
It wasn’t full forgiveness. It wasn’t forgetting. But it was acknowledgment. And sometimes, that’s enough.
