An emotional Instagram post from Kendra radiated relief and gratitude, acknowledging that after countless tests and weeks of uncertainty, there were no signs of disease.
Brie’s heart was reportedly strong, and her smile returned as she began dreaming again — talking about future plans like throwing a huge swimming party with her friends.
But the family was careful not to let the diagnosis of remission erase the reality that had shaped their lives.
Their caution was sadly necessary. In January 2024, just over 22 months after her celebrated cancer‑free status, scans revealed a devastating truth: the cancer had returned.
Brie’s cancer was back, more aggressive than before, and the family faced a new chapter of fear, uncertainty, and emotional pain.
By then, Brie was old enough to understand more about her disease than most children her age should ever have to know.
When her parents explained to her that her cancer had returned, Brie asked with heartbreaking clarity, “But mom, cancer can kill people.”
