The storm came in much faster than anyone had predicted. By the time I carefully pulled my car into the diner’s parking lot, everything outside was already covered in a thick, quiet blanket of snow. I hadn’t planned on opening the diner that night — who would be out in such terrible weather? But then I noticed a long line of eighteen-wheel trucks parked along the shoulder of the highway.
