Rob Reiner is best known for shaping some of Hollywood’s most beloved films, including The Princess Bride, When Harry Met Sally, This Is Spinal Tap, and A Few Good Men, the latter earning an Academy Award nomination for Best Picture. Beyond entertainment, Reiner built a second legacy as a deeply engaged political activist, particularly within Democratic causes. He played a key role in early childhood education initiatives and co-founded the American Foundation for Equal Rights, which helped overturn California’s Proposition 8 and advance same-sex marriage nationwide. Unlike many celebrities, allies often described Reiner as someone who studied policy closely rather than engaging only symbolically.
That same intensity carried into his views on Donald Trump. In a 2017 interview at the Dubai International Film Festival, Reiner told Variety that Trump was “mentally unfit” for the presidency, calling him the most unqualified person ever to hold the office and criticizing his lack of interest in understanding government.
