Legendary filmmaker, actor, producer, and political activist Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, were found dead inside their Brentwood, Los Angeles home on Sunday afternoon.

A spokesperson for the Reiner family released a brief statement Sunday evening, announcing the couple’s tragic deaths and asking for privacy during a time of profound grief.
“It is with profound sorrow that we announce the tragic passing of Michele and Rob Reiner,” the statement read. “We are heartbroken by this sudden loss, and we ask for privacy during this unbelievably difficult time.”

Detectives from the Los Angeles Police Department’s Robbery-Homicide Division are actively investigating the case.
Reiner, 78, and Michele Reiner, 68, were both discovered dead inside their home in Brentwood, an affluent neighborhood on the Westside of Los Angeles.
Discovery, Investigation, and Initial Police Response
Shortly after 3:30 p.m. PST on Sunday, the Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) responded to a medical aid call at the Reiner residence.
First responders located the bodies of an adult male and female inside the home and notified the LAPD.
While police have not yet released full details on the cause of death, multiple reputable media outlets report that the couple suffered injuries consistent with stab wounds, and investigators are treating the incident as a potential homicide.
At a press briefing late Sunday, LAPD Deputy Chief Alan Hamilton emphasized that the investigation remains in an early stage.
He told reporters that authorities were not publicly identifying any suspects or persons of interest at this time and were focused on gathering evidence and interviewing potential witnesses, including family members.
Law enforcement sources quoted by The Los Angeles Times also noted that there was no initial indication of forced entry preceding the deaths.
A family member has been interviewed in connection with the case as detectives continue to piece together the events that led to the Reiners’ deaths.
