Raising one child is hard. Raising five—without help—is nearly impossible. But this woman refused to give up.
The world, however, was cruel.
Neighbors whispered behind her back. Strangers stared in the streets. Landlords slammed doors when they saw her mixed-race children. At times, she was turned away from housing, told she didn’t “fit in.”
But her love was unshakable. Every night, no matter how exhausted she was, she tucked her children into bed with the same words:

One became an architect, designing beautiful, functional buildings.
Another pursued law and became a lawyer, fighting for justice.
One discovered a passion for music and became a singer.
Another built a career as a consultant, guiding businesses.
And the last embraced creativity and became an artist.
The children were proof of their mother’s strength. But the shadow of their absent father still followed them.
The Pain of Doubt
Even as adults, they couldn’t escape the questions. “Do you even know who your father is?” people would sneer. “Are you sure your mother told the truth?”
“Let’s take a genetic test,” one of them suggested. “Let’s end this once and for all.”
