Officer Miller was dispatched to a local grocery store one rainy afternoon. The manager had reported a case of shoplifting — something that seemed to be a typical call for a police officer. He thought he would deal with a teenager swiping some candy or perhaps an experienced thief trying to steal higher-value items. However, what awaited him in the store’s security office was far from what he expected.

Instead of a younger individual or professional thief, he saw an elderly man, roughly 80 years old, sitting quietly, his hands folded and his eyes focused on the floor.
