He sighed but agreed.
I borrowed a positive pregnancy test from a friend who was expecting and practiced my story.
I rehearsed how I’d tell Tom the “news” and imagined his reaction. I had to make it convincing. I had to be strong.
This wasn’t just about the money anymore; it was about standing up for myself and my family. A few days later, I called Tom and asked to meet at my parents’ house. “We need to talk,” I said, keeping my voice steady.
He agreed, though I could hear the suspicion in his tone. My dad and I sat at the kitchen table, waiting. The air was thick with tension when Tom walked in.
“What’s this about?” he asked, looking annoyed. “Sit down, Tom,” I said calmly. “We have something important to discuss.”
