Before New York, Melania worked in Paris and Milan, steadily building her modeling career. When she eventually told Jure she was heading to New York, he says he was surprised. “She said it was for a hair care campaign—that’s what brought her there,” he recalled.
They saw each other again around the year 2000, but Jure noticed a shift. During their conversation, Melania suddenly switched from Slovenian to English. “I joked, ‘Did you forget your own language?’” he said with a laugh. At the time, he says, no one—including Melania herself—could have imagined that she would one day be living in Trump Tower on Fifth Avenue.
