The actor said she’s feeling ‘numb’ following the deaths of Rob Reiner and his wife Michele

Jamie Lee Curtis says she has ‘lost great friends’ after Rob Reiner and his wife Michele Singer Reiner were found dead inside their Los Angeles home.

Police said they responded to calls to provide medical aid to a property in Brentwood at around 3.38pm local time on Sunday (December 14).

Upon entering the property, officials found 78-year-old Reiner and 68-year-old Michele tragically deceased.

The LAPD Robbery Homicide Division have since been assigned to the case to determine what happened.

Tributes have been pouring in for the married couple, including from Curtis and her husband Christopher Guest, who starred in the Hollywood legend’s directional debut, This Is Spinal Tap, as well as The Princess Bride.

Curtis said in a statement: “Christopher and I are numb and sad and shocked about the violent, tragic deaths of our dear friends Rob and Michele Singer Reiner and our ONLY focus and care right now is for their children and immediate families and we will offer all support possible to help them.

“There will be plenty of time later to discuss the creative lives we shared and the great political and social impact they both had on the entertainment industry, early childhood development, the fight for gay marriage and their global care for a world in crisis. We have lost great friends. Please give us time to grieve.”

Police have since arrested and charged Rob and Michele’s middle child, 32-year-old Nick Reiner.

Nick was arrested Sunday and charged on Monday (December 15) with a felony-level crime, according to the LASD Inmate Center records.

He most-notably co-wrote 2016’s Being Charlie, which his father directed. The movie is based loosely on Nick’s addiction struggles.

Prior to Nick’s arrest, the LAPD said detectives had been interviewing a family member about the deaths, though reiterated that they were not ‘looking for anyone as a suspect or in any other manner at this time’.

“We’re going to try to speak to every family member that we can to get to the facts of this investigation,” said Deputy Chief Alan Hamilton.

Alongside Lee Curtis and her partner, tributes have been pouring in for Rob and Michele from all walks of life, including from California Governor Gavin Newsom.

Rob, who has long supported the Democrats, ‘was a passionate advocate for children and for civil rights’, according to Newsom.

The politician added in a statement: “Rob will be remembered for his remarkable filmography and for his extraordinary contribution to humanity.”

Nick Reiner’s attorney gives update after he’s arrested in connection with murder of director Rob Reiner and wife

Reiner has been booked into jail on suspicion of murder

Nick Reiner’s attorney has given an update on his well-being following his arrest.

Nick was arrested on Sunday evening (December 14) and booked into jail the following day on suspicion of murder after his parents, acclaimed Hollywood director Rob Reiner and his wife of 36 years, Michele Reiner, were found dead in their home.

In a press conference yesterday, LAPD Chief of Police Jim McDonnell said: “December 14, at about 3:40 in the afternoon, LAPD responded to the residence of Rob and Michele Reiner located in the West Los Angeles division.

“At that location, they found two deceased adults, a male and a female. Through the night, working with the coroner’s office, they were able to identify them definitively as Rob and Michele Reiner.”

Initially, Nick was being held on a $4,000,000 bond, but this has since changed, per his jail records, and the 32-year-old’s now being held without bail.

Nick is yet to be officially charged for any crimes and will soon be due in court. His lawyer, Alan Jackson, has since revealed that Nick has not yet been medically cleared to be transported to the courthouse.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department (LASD) enlists a county physician to perform medical evaluations on inmates to ensure they receive the care services they need.

Jackson called the matter ‘a procedural issue’, NBC Los Angeles reports, but expressed his hopes that Nick will be cleared in time for his court appearances later this week.

With this in mind, Jackson has confirmed that there won’t be a hearing in relation to the case today (December 17), CNN shared.

LA prosecutors are believed to have put together charging documents for Nick, but as of Tuesday morning, they have yet to announce any charges. It’s thought that the announcement will be made soon, however, as the case is being handed over to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.

While charges are yet to be announced, the LAPD has already branded Nick as ‘responsible’ for his parents’ deaths.

“As a result of the initial investigation, it was determined that the Reiners were the victims of homicide,” part of the statement shared on Twitter read.

“The investigation further revealed that Nick Reiner, the 32-year-old son of Robert and Michele Reiner, was responsible for their deaths.”
