Grassi emphasized that Dane’s participation brought authenticity to the episode — a reflection of the realities thousands of ALS patients and families face every year.

“We wanted to meet him where he was that day,” Grassi said, describing how ALS can change from week to week — sometimes day to day.
“We kept the conversation open and adjusted everything to make sure he felt comfortable and supported.”
The result was an episode deeply grounded in truth. The script avoided dramatic exaggeration or unrealistic portrayals.
Instead, it focused on the emotional reality of receiving a life-altering diagnosis: the confusion, the fear, the grief, and the immense love and strength families show behind closed doors.
“There’s no rule book,” Grassi explained.
“There’s no right or wrong way to navigate a difficult diagnosis. We wanted to show that honestly.”
