When Dick Van Dyke was in his early twenties, he almost quit show business.

He’d gone to New York with big dreams and a thin wallet, landing small radio jobs and the occasional television appearance. One afternoon, after yet another rejection, he was walking down the street wondering how he’d explain to his young family that it might be time to give up and go home.
