
“It was like an explosion. There was a loud bang, and then we saw flames. People started running out of their cars, some screaming,” said Ana Torres, a driver who witnessed the incident from the opposite lane.
Miami-Dade County firefighters arrived quickly at the scene and brought the fire under control in less than 20 minutes. At least four people were injured, two of them seriously, and were airlifted to Jackson Memorial Hospital. Authorities have not yet released the identities of those affected.
Traffic at a standstill and detours
I-75 was temporarily closed in both directions, causing a traffic jam that stretched for more than 10 miles. Alternate routes were opened via US-27 and the Turnpike, although traffic flow was extremely slow for several hours.
The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) issued an alert through its digital platforms, recommending avoiding the area and using traffic apps for alternate routes. Normal traffic flow was not fully restored until after 8:00 p.m.Continue reading…
