FBI Director Kash Patel praised federal and state law enforcement officers in Illinois this week following a significant enforcement operation that resulted in the arrest of more than 60 individuals in just seven days.
The coordinated effort, known as Operation Safe Christmas, was conducted under the Department of Justice and aimed at reducing violent crime.
According to officials, 63 criminal offenders were taken into custody during the operation, along with the seizure of approximately 2.5 pounds of illegal narcotics and $15,000 in cash.
Authorities said the arrests involved individuals accused of various crimes, including violent offenses, drug distribution, and outstanding warrants.
The operation took place in the Southern District of Illinois and involved close cooperation among multiple federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies.
Participating agencies included the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), the Department of Justice (DOJ), the U.S. Marshals Service, the Illinois State Police, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) Chicago, and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA).
The results of the operation were first reported by Just the News and later confirmed by federal authorities.

FBI Director Kash Patel publicly commended the operation in a post on X, emphasizing both the scale of the arrests and the importance of interagency cooperation.
“Great work [FBI Springfield] and partners,” Patel wrote. “60+ arrests in just 7 days and American streets safer because of it.
Patel’s comments highlighted the federal government’s broader strategy of deploying targeted, intelligence-driven enforcement actions to address violent crime and drug trafficking, particularly during high-traffic periods such as the holiday season.
Officials familiar with Operation Safe Christmas said the initiative is part of a larger nationwide effort designed to identify repeat offenders, disrupt organized criminal activity, and reduce the risk of violence in local communities.
Focus on Violent Crime and Drug Distribution
Law enforcement officials said many of the individuals arrested during the Illinois sweep were linked to violent criminal activity or narcotics distribution networks that pose ongoing risks to public safety.
“These arrests were not random,” one federal official explained.
“They were the result of coordinated intelligence gathering, surveillance, and targeted enforcement actions.”
The seizure of narcotics and cash during the operation underscored the financial incentives driving much of the criminal activity.
