Ever wondered where Blake Shelton gets his musical gift? Back in 2012, the country star shared a special moment with his mom, Dorothy Shackleford, when the two teamed up for a heartfelt duet of a Christmas song they co-wrote called Time for Me to Come Home.
The touching performance took place during Shelton’s first-ever holiday TV special, Blake Shelton’s Not-So-Family Christmas, where he invited his mother onstage to help bring the festive country tune to life.

The hour-long Christmas special featured plenty of star power, including musical performances alongside Kelly Clarkson and Reba McEntire, as well as appearances from Christina Aguilera, Jay Leno, and Larry the Cable Guy.
“Time for Me to Come Home” later appeared on Shelton’s 2013 holiday album, Cheers, It’s Christmas, becoming a fan favorite during the holiday season.
But the song’s story didn’t stop with music. Inspired by its message, Dorothy Shackleford expanded the idea into a novel, collaborating with author Travis Thrasher. That book eventually sparked an entire Hallmark Christmas movie franchise.
The film series includes titles such as Time for Me to Come Home for Christmas, Time for Us to Come Home for Christmas, Time for You to Come Home for Christmas, Time for Them to Come Home for Christmas, and Time for Him to Come Home for Christmas.

The most recent installment, Time for Her to Come Home for Christmas, premiered on November 30, 2023, marking the sixth movie inspired by the original song.

From a mother-and-son duet to a full-fledged holiday movie universe, “Time for Me to Come Home” has become a lasting Christmas tradition—one rooted in family, music, and coming home where it matters most.
