According to local reports, Matilda was traveling with two friends. She wanted to drive to Tione to attend classes, as she does every school day. The road where the accident happened is very busy and is considered one of the most important links in the region. The tragic accident immediately caused great consternation in the small community.
The words of the mayor of Giustino, Manuel Cosi, were particularly moving. He said: “It is a terrible tragedy that leaves us speechless. You can’t go to school in the morning and die like this. We are devastated. What has happened is terrible.” His statement reflects the bewilderment felt by many local residents.
Matilda was considered an up-and-coming talent in figure skating. She was a member of the Sporting Ghiaccio Art Pinzolo club and spent almost every day on the ice. Despite a knee injury, she had recently made impressive progress. At the end of 2024, she came third in the final of the Italian Cup – a sign of her great potential. After the tragedy, her club published a black and white photo of her with the words that they couldn’t imagine not seeing her train every day.
