But hope rarely lasted. Time and again, it was snuffed out. “He’s too old,” people would say. “Not what we’re looking for.” Year after year, hope slowly gave way to quiet resignation.
Still, he watched. Still, he held on, even when his tail barely moved, his ears drooped, and his body seemed to shrink from the world around him.
A family arrived. They weren’t searching for a puppy, or a perfect companion—they were searching for a heart that needed love. And there he was.
He sat quietly, head lowered, yet there was something in his posture that drew them in: a quiet dignity, gentle patience, and a glimmer of hope.
That tiny spark in his eyes flickered once more. Slowly, he lifted his head. His tail gave a hesitant wag, and for the first time in years, a sense of possibility stirred within him.
