Before life grew heavy, everything had been filled with laughter and plans. Ava and Lily were identical twins with bright eyes and matching curls, and they had been the center of Michael’s world. She moved with the girls from their comfortable home in Scottsdale to a small rental on the outskirts of Albuquerque, saying she wanted something quieter. Michael wasn’t convinced, but as long as he could see his daughters every week, he accepted it.
