Senate Approves Trump’s Judicial Nominee for Appeals Court with Liberal Majority

The U.S. Senate has confirmed Joshua Dunlap, a conservative attorney from Maine, to serve on the Boston-based 1st U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, marking a historic first for President Donald Trump’s second term.

The Senate approved the nomination by a narrow 52–46 vote, largely along party lines, amid heightened partisan attention to judicial appointments.

This confirmation represents Trump’s initial opportunity to influence an appellate court that handles federal cases throughout New England, a region that has traditionally leaned heavily Democratic in both politics and judicial appointments.
