Melissa Gilbert became visibly emotional in a New Mexico courtroom as a judge ruled that her husband, actor and director Timothy Busfield, would be released ahead of trial under strict conditions. Judge David Murphy granted release on his own recognizance, requiring Busfield to attend all court appearances and follow court-ordered restrictions.
The decision came despite prosecutors requesting continued custody, and Gilbert was seen wiping away tears as the ruling was delivered. Busfield will be supervised by pretrial services and must follow several limitations, including avoiding alcohol, illegal substances, firearms, and contact with witnesses. He is also prohibited from contacting minors and must keep the court informed of any address changes. A trial date has not yet been set.
